3/29 recap

Fun show today with my producer Kailyn grabbing a mic! I think he will be a regular!

Today we talked about some of the crazy diets out there. The bottom line is that all diets are wrong. They just can't be maintained for life and the temporary mentality only reinforces in your brain that you will go off it and rebound back up or worse than you were before the diet. On my show we talk about the realistic and healthy steps you can take, based on the latest research to make it a permanent lifestyle change that keeps the fat off for life without all the willpower!

Science has shown that belly fat has inflammatory properties causing many different diseases including cancer and Alzheimer's, so do your high intensity workouts to shrink that belly fat and keep it off!

The flora in your intestine can dictate how you absorb your food and even how easy it can be to lose the belly fat. To get the best flora possible, make sure you eat plenty of dark greens; consume little to no sugar; do high intensity exercise; drink plenty of water; enjoy moderate levels of sunshine; and get enough sleep at night.

Green tea has been found to have antioxidant properties and to burn fat as well, so switch off the coffee and get on the green tea team!

Selenium is in the press lately as a memory booster, especially as we age, so get your eggs, grass fed beef and Brazil nuts to crank up your levels!

My book is done and is getting proofed now, so if anyone knows a good agent, please email me at pj@xgym.com.

We closed the show with the tapping technique called EFT. It really can knock out cravings and emotional eating issues in seconds so listen in next week for phase 2 of the training process. You can also watch the show "I Can Make You Thin" on TLC tomorrow night at 9pm. The host uses the same technique I have used for the last 1 1/2 years on X Gym members.

See you next Saturday morning!

3/22 show recap

Today we discussed the book "In Defense of Food" by Michael Pollan where her argues that groceries have become "edible food-like substances" instead of real food like they used to be. You can buy a pound of organic oats for a buck, but there's no money in that, so food manufacturers process it and turn them into Cheerios and charge you $5 bucks a pound. THe bottom line is that processed foods cause cancer, diabetes and other disease so stick with the basics and prepare it yourself!

For bacon lovers, try Morning Star Bacon strips, Trader Joe's Applewood Smoked Turkey bacon or Welshire Farms Uncured Natural Turkey bacon for healthy alternatives that won't cause cancer!

The FDA is not infallible so don't trust them for everything. Their inspection process is degrading every year and some foreign factories don't even get visited for approval until there is a problem.

Pepsi "Raw" mig be coming out soon in the US. It is supposed to be an organic version of Pepsi and while it is better than the original or diet, it is still full of sugar which has been proven to cause many diseases and inflammation related dysfunctions.

GET YOUR WATER everyday! The best source is reverse-osmosis filtration (wetcoolers.com). The next best is filtered tap water using a Brita or Pur type filter, then filtered bottled water, and last plain tap if you don't have a filter. Plain tap is still better than not being hydrated so there are no excuses for being dehydrated!

Green tea has been shown to have powerful antioxidants called catechins that are best absorbed in your intestine by squeezing some lemon juice in the tea. Try to wean yourself off coffee and onto green tea for real health benefits.

Neck and shoulder pain caused by sitting at a computer or phone work has been shown to be alleviated by 70% or more with strength training of the upper back muscles. Chock up another reason to lift weights!

Kiwi fruit can actually help you reduce your risk of stroke. Kiwis also have more vitamin C than oranges and more potassium than bananas. Kiwis are also chock full of Vitamin E and magnesium so this earns the spot for fruit of the week.

Great sources for grass fed beef are:
Grass fed beef is the best way to eat red meat and will actually help you burn off body fat because of the type of fat it has.

Travel nutrition tips can be found on the X Gym website recipe page so no more excuses when you are on a trip! You can also find a list of negative fat foods there.

Be sure to try the radio program workout on the radio page of the X Gym website. It's a great fat furnace routine and I can answer your questions about in the air or through email at pj@xgym.com.

Thanks for listening and remember that whether you think you can or you can't, either way you are right!

3/1 show

Yep, I've been blog delinquent lately! I have been swamped with lots of new members at the X Gym and finishing my book - I'm finally done! After 15 years and wading through hundreds of research studies, it's finally completed. Wow, what a feeling! My next step is to shop for publishers so if anyone has a good tip, please email me at pj@xgym.com.

I have been waiting to hear back from Jorge Cruise's people about a reschedule for an interview on the show, but they seem to have gone dark for the moment. I'll post an update here as soon as I hear anything new.

Last Saturday we talked about core strength preventing back problems instead of doctors, drugs and surgery. All you need to heal and prevent most back issues is a good core program! Google it in the net and there should be plenty to try.

Be sure to go to my radio page at xgym.com to see the starter home program I designed for radio listeners! Call me on the air for coaching as well. Remember that even if you live out of radio range, you can still hear it live on the kkol 1300 website.

Get your vitamin D checked - especially if you live in northern latitudes! Doctors are finding strong links between vitamin D deficiencies and disease, depression and energy levels.

To get better sleep at night, try clearing your sleeping space of electric devices. Make sure things close to your head are battery powered and keep your cell phone off or away from your body for the best quality sleep.

Check your attitude to prevent heart disease! A new study showed that people who thought themselves to be treated unfairly are more likely to suffer heart problems than those who thought life was fair. Happiness is healthy and laughter really is the best medicine. Happiness is a CHOICE and you are the only one responsible for your happiness or unhappiness.

Less than 1/3 of Americans are eating the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables. Is it just a coincidence that 2/3 of Americans are now overweight or obese? Things that make you go hmmmmmmm....

Girls starting puberty before the age of  9 was considered abnormal and justified investigation by an endocrinologist. Now girls are showing signs earlier than that and instead of addressing the root of the problem (chemicals and hormones in food, plastics, etc.) a pediatric society is actually suggesting lowering the age threshold to 7 for white girls and 6 for African American girls. Outrageous!

New research shows that it takes just one "bad" meal to do damage to your cells. Fried foods and baked goods using refined and processed ingredients are the worst. Junk foods also contain ingredients that make you addicted to it and want more. The food manufacturers know this good and well! The executives sure don't eat their own products!

Scientists now admit that sun exposure benefits outweigh the risks. Vitamin D is a powerful cancer fighter and sun is the best way to get it. It doesn't take a tan either. Just 10 minutes in short sleeves can give you a natural dose in the right balance that kicks on any supplement you can buy. We can't get proper amounts however in Seattle from October to April, so supplementation might be necessary.

Be sure to tune back in from 8-10 am this Saturday for more of the latest science in nutrition and exercise on KKOL AM 1300.
